Anti-Turbine Group Reacts To Study

Members of the Chatham-Kent Wind Action Group say no new information has been introduced in a Health Canada Wind Turbine study.

The study, which took place over a four-month period last year in southwestern Ontario, determined there were no adverse health effects associated with wind turbine noise. However, it goes on to say there is annoyance associated with living and being near the turbines.

The CK Wind Action Group's Monica Elmes says this is contradictory, adding that "annoyance" is an adverse health effect approved by the World Health Organization. "The symptoms people are describing are annoyance and they're well known stress effects," says Elmes. "Nothing new learned, I think [it's] a stall tactic and a big waste of our money."

Representatives from Health Canada say they treat annoyance more as a health indicator, adding there's some medical evidence that annoyance is a mild stressor.
