Heat Leads To Lighter Cattle Receipts

In the Beef Farmer's Of Ontario weekly commentary, the extreme heat last week contributed to lighter receipts of cattle coming to market.

There were 237 fed steers and heifers sold through auction markets down 45 from last week, and 145 less that the same week last year.

Fed steers ranged from $109.52-$133.26 averaging $124.70 up $0.77 from last week but $4.39 below year ago prices.

Fed heifers ranged from $114.72-$128.03 averaging $124.08 up $2.45 from last week and $1.78 lower than last year at this time.

Auction markets reported trade as steady to $2.00-$3.00 cwt higher, especially on the good quality cattle, with premiums.

The market ended the week on a good demand at prices $3.00-$4.00 cwt higher.
