NAFTA Talks: Day 1

Farm leaders from Canada, the U-S and Mexico are meeting in Washington as talks begin to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Farm groups say they want to make the point that all three countries have benefited from NAFTA.

The US is calling for major changes to the trade agreement, while Canada & Mexico were emphasizing what the three countries have in common for mutual benefit

C-F-A President Ron Bonnett is one of the supporters, saying he hopes all three countries can build on the success of NAFTA.

Meanwhile, farm groups in Canada say they're worried about how a new NAFTA agreement will affect producers.

The National Farmers Union says the talks should be held in public to ensure any deal supports fair and sustainable trade and farming systems.

The N-F-U is also worried that the U-S will target Canada's supply management system for dairy and other commodities.
