Small Manitoba Oat Processor Taking Advantage Of Increased Demand

A small processing plant near Emerson, Manitoba is reaping the benefits of an increased demand for oats.
Emerson Milling was shipping just two trucks per week just 30 years ago, but now the small converter ships up to 10 railcars of oat groats per week into both the United States and Mexico, in addition to a number of truck shipments per day.
The company says close to 95% of their products are exported, and owner Real Tetrault believes that demand won't be slowing down anytime soon.
Manitoba's oats are in high demand compared to other regions, due to the province's high beta-glucan levels.
