Fed Heifer Prices Make Biggest Move In Last Week's Markets

Ontario fed heifer prices made some solid ground last week.

The Beef Farmers of Ontario report prices jumped by $6.07 to an average of $147.96.

Fed steers went the other way.

The average price of $146.46 is down 20 cents.

Cull cow prices were also down by 72 cents.

The average of $74.55 is 14 dollars back of last year's mark.

BFO points out the Ontario railgrade market continues to hold steady. Last week prices gained 25 cents once again, moving to an average of $250.

The group also notes stocker and feeder markets last week were barely steady for the most part.

Kevin Grier of the Canadian Boxed Beef Report says talk among grocery retailers has shifted to the May long weekend.

He feels beef featuring in flyers will slow down until mid-April.
