Post-Secondary Ag Enrollment Growing

The number of students studying agriculture is on the rise.

According to Statistics Canada, more than 12,000 students enrolled in agricultural post-secondary programs in 2014 -- an increase of 2.7 per cent from the year prior and up 16.6 per cent from 2009.

Farm Credit Canada says it's recent poll of post-secondary institutions confirms the same trend.

FCC notes the increase in enrollment in all other programs in Canada has increased by 1.2 per cent over the same five years, less than half that of agriculture.

Todd Klink, FCC's chief marketing officer, says the increase in enrollment shows the strength and appeal of our nation's ag industry.

He feels the growth in agricultural educations means producers can be optimistic for the future of farming.
