Strong And Active Trade In Last Week's Beef Auctions

The Beef Farmers of Ontario report strong demand and active trading for fed cattle in auction markets last week.

Fed steer prices were up $2.21 on the week, averaging $131.13.

Heifers prices jumped by $6.92, averaging $132.21.

BFO notes a large volume of cull cows hit Ontario markets last week.

The 3,188 head were 300 more than the week prior and 613 more than the same time last year.

That led to a decline of $1.80 through the week. The average cull cow price of $67.65 is down more than 13 dollars from 2015.

Ontario railgrade prices also saw a large increase last week, rising by 8 dollars.

The farmers also point out nearly 8,700 head of stocker and feeder cattle went to market last week.

That's up about 2,100 from the week prior and last year.
