Olymel Purchases Another Major Hog Producer

Canada's largest pork and poultry producer and processor has purchased another major hog producer in Alberta.

Olymel L.P. has acquired Pinnacle Farms Inc., which includes quarantine, nursery, sow and finishing barns.

The transaction makes it possible for 100,000 more hogs to enter Olymel's plant in Red Deer.

Rejean Nadeau, Olymel President and CEO, says the company is pleased to welcome the employees of Pinnacle Farms into its family.

He says Olymel's goal is to produce more than 1.5 million hogs annually in Western Canada.

Pinnacle Farms Director Ron Arnason says they've been supplying hogs to the processor for more than four years, so they know each other well.

Olymel employs 11 and a half thousand workers, of which 1,500 are in its Red Deer operation.
