The Federal government has made a $350 million investment into two dairy programs in anticipation of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Trade Agreement.
Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay says Canada's dairy producers and processors are important to the growth of our nation.
He adds the funding displays the strong support of supply management by the government.
The Dairy Farm Investment Program will receive $250 million over the next five years.
Dairy farmers can use the money to update farm systems and technology to boost production.
The government says money can go to management tools, robotic milkers and automatic feeders.
$100 million over the next four years will go to dairy processors to help modernize their operations through the Dairy Processing Investment Fund.
Chrystia Freeland, Minister of International Trade, says this is an opportunity for dairy producers and processors to become even more competitive in Canada and internationally.
