IPM Nears With Official Turning of the Furrow

The International Plowing Match may still be 12 days away but event organizers were on hand yesterday to celebrate the Official Turning of the Furrow.

Ceremonial first plow honours went to Wellington County plower Carman Weppler.

The Clifford native said he hadn't considered what the moment meant - until it arrived.

Weppler acknowledged it was an honour and was glad to be the one chosen for the task.

He competed last year at the World Plowing Championships in Denmark.

Weppler also says he's looking forward to competing at the IPM in his own county.

He's hoping his knowledge of the local soil will pay off in the form of a victory.
