The National Farmers Union Ontario says its members are opposed to amendments to the price negotiating rules for provincial vegetable growers.
The proposal would take away the price negotiating power of the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers marketing board.
The NFU-O complains the consultation process was too short and poorly timed, coming in the busy harvest season for the growers involved.
The NFU-O suggests the proposed changes would remove power from the farmer and further consolidate it in the hands of the buyer.
NFU-O Board member Karen Eatwell says the only people who will benefit are the corporations, suggesting consumers won't see lower prices.
The consultation period on the proposed changes ended last week.
