Huron Group Keeping Judging 'Core Competency'

The president of the Huron County 4-H club says judging remains a strong component of the program.

Reg Vinnicombe calls it a core competency of every 4-H club.

Huron County held it's annual judging competition this week in Seaforth.

The judging involves eight classes - three livestock, four life skills classes and a quiz.

Vinnicombe explains the livestock classes help 4-H'ers identify criteria that judges look for and how to evaluate and prioritize that criteria.

The life skills or reasons classes help promote their ability to speak in public and build their confidence.

The Huron County 4-H Club has about 200 members this year.

Vinnicombe says both the livestock and life skills classes help the participants develop critical skills.
