Government Funds To Help Bruce, Huron Wineries Expand

Wineries in Bruce and Huron counties are sharing in a new government investment in the industry.

The federal and provincial governments are spreading 856 thousand dollars over 20 Ontario wineries to help them expand production, grow their brand recognition and leverage new economic opportunities.

Hoity Toity Cellars of Bruce County is getting 21 thousand dollars to re-brand and revamp the winery/cidery for expansion in existing markets and developing new ones.

Dark Horse Estate Winery in Huron is getting 2 grants of 15 thousand dollars each.

One will help it develop a strategic business plan.

The other will go towards a feasibility study of the viability of building and operating an estate winery.

Ontario Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal says the province has grown into an internationally recognized wine region producing award-winning, high-quality wines.

The province is home to over 200 wineries and the industry supports over 7 thousand direct jobs.
