HCFA 75th Event Chance To Remember The Past

Friends and members of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture packed the Knights of Columbus Hall in Goderich on Saturday night to celebrate the Federation's 75th anniversary.

John Gaunt has a lot of memories of the early days because he was a field services rep for the OFA.

He considers himself lucky because he worked in seven of the best counties in the Province … from Wingham to Windsor.

Gaunt says at that time there were two major agriculture organizations and there was some competition between them that he believes sapped the energy from both of them.

There were times when he wondered if either one would survive, and that makes the 75th anniversary very significant.

He adds they're much stronger today than they were then and he believes they also have the ear of the Provincial government much more than they did in the early days.

Gaunt considered himself lucky because he enjoyed working in his territory and he could stay out of the spotlight.
