Ontario Has 9th Confirmed PED Diagnosis Of 2016

Ontario Pork has confirmed a new PED diagnosis in the province.

This confirmed diagnosis is in a farrow-to-finish operation in Lambton County.

That would be the 9th case in the province this year - the 94th since the disease was first diagnosed on a Middlesex County farm in January of 2014.

PED can cause up to 100 per cent fatalities in nursing piglets.

In growing pigs it causes widespread diarrhea with low mortality.

It is not considered to be either a human health or food safety risk.
