Federal Money For Greenhouse Waste Water Project

The federal government is putting 400 million dollars into a project to help greenhouse farmers introduce cost-effective waste water treatment systems.

Flowers Canada will use the money to find ways for growers to minimize the amount of pollutants in runoff water from their greenhouses and nurseries.

Experimental water treatment systems will be tested on four farms in the Lake Simcoe and Niagara Regions.

Flowers Canada Growers President Andy Kuyvenhoven says his members are engaged in developing new and innovative solutions for increasing water use efficiency on their farms.

2014 farm cash receipts of the country's ornamental horticulture sector were about 1 point 8 billion dollars.
