Money Available For Goat ID Plan

The Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food is investing up to $255,487 in order to help the goat industry prepare for mandatory national identification and traceability requirements.

This investment, under the Growing Forward 2 AgriMarketing Program will help the Canadian National Goat Federation implement a plan for a mandatory identification and traceability system under the 2015 amendment to the Health of Animals Regulations.

There are approximately 225,000 goats in Canada on 6,000 farms.

The primary exports are meat, cheese, and live animals.

The Assurance Systems stream under, the AgriMarketing Program, helps enhance the competitiveness of the agriculture industry by meeting buyer and market demands for assurance.

The stream supports developing national assurance systems or standards for food safety, animal and plant health, market attribute/quality and traceability.
