Johnson: Farmers Need To Get Modern Agriculture Message Out

Farmers have to work harder on public relations.

That's the message from agronomist Peter Johnson in a talk titled 'Agriculture in the Crosshairs' at Grey Bruce Farmer's Week.

Johnson says farmers have got to get the message out that modern agricultural practices are positive for society.

He says it can be hard to counter arguments from misinformed critics and points to the public perception that neonics and genetically modified crops are bad.

"Most people who are targeting big bad agribusiness have never farmed a doggone day in their life and it drives me nuts but they still think they can tell us how to do it better," said Johnson.

Johnson says strategic use of social media is the best way to get a positive message out about modern agriculture.
