CFFO: Enormous Potential For Sequestering Carbon In Farm Soils

The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario supports the provincial government's cap and trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The CFFO feels that's the least disruptive approach for business and society and an approach which should encourage innovation and research.

The proposal includes agricultural offsets.

The CFFO points out there is enormous potential for sequestering carbon in farm soils.

The Federation suggests that's a strong argument for farmland preservation.

The CFFO submission in response to the government cap and trade proposal includes the call for new developments to meet density guidelines.

The submission says those guidelines would create opportunities to reduce carbon emissions from transportation.

And it argues those densities would also protect the food producing and carbon sequestering capability of protected Ontario farmland.
