The USDA says American hog farmers had the biggest hog and pig inventory on record on December 1st.
The 68 point 3 million head was up 1 per cent from December of 2014.
The USDA has breeding inventory and market hog inventory both up 1 per cent from a year ago.
And the September to November 2015 pig crop was down 1 per cent from 2014.
Looking ahead, U-S hog producers expect to have 2 per cent fewer sows farrow during the December-February 2016 quarter than farrowed a year ago.
Farrowing intentions for the March to May period are down slightly from 2015.
