Maple Glen Soybean Seed Of The Year

A soybean strain has been named Canada's 2015 Seed of the Year.

The Maple Glen soybean was released in 1987.

Over 1 point 2 million acres of the seed were sown in the 10 years following it's release.

Maple Glen was developed by Doctors Harvey Voldeng and Elroy Cober.

It is part of a series of soybeans developed to stand up to Eastern Ontario weather.

The seed is also credited with helping develop Japanese demand for Ontario soybeans.

The Seed of the Year competition encourages public breeders to highlight their research accomplishments in developing a new field crop, forage, fruit, vegetable or herb variety.

It's open to any publicly developed Canadian variety.
