Canadian Crop/Livestock Prices Higher In September

The prices Canadian farmers got for their products in September were up 5 point 6 per cent from a year ago.

Statistics Canada reports the crops index was up 9 point 3 per cent.

The agency suggests the lower Canadian dollar has given support to crops received by Canadian producers.

September's livestock and animal products index was up 1 point 4 per cent over a year ago.

Statscan says that index has been growing on a year-over-year basis since April of 2013.

Cattle and calf prices were up 13 and a half per cent.

However, hog, poultry, dairy and egg prices were all lower in September than they were a year ago.
