DFC Survey Shows 'Canada's Dairy System Worth Keeping'

Dairy Farmers of Canada has released poll results suggesting almost 90 per cent of Canadians feel it's important the milk products they use come from Canadian farmers.

The poll was done for DFC as part of it's efforts to defend supply management at the Trans Pacific Partnership talks.

The group representing this country's dairy farmers say Canadian negotiators continue to come under pressure to overhaul the way dairy products are bought and sold in this country.

More than 80 per cent of the poll respondents said they didn't mind paying more for milk produced in Canada because it doesn't contain growth hormones.

And 86 per cent expressed concern about lowering Canada's food safety and quality standards.

Dairy Farmers of Canada President Wally Smith says the poll results are a clear message that Canada's dairy system is worth keeping.
