Animal Welfare Award For U of G Professor

The Medal for Outstanding Contributions from the Universities Federation of Animal Welfare was set up in 2011.

It's first winner was now-retired professor Ian Duncan of the University of Guelph.

It's most recent winner is also from the University of Guelph - professor Georgia Mason.

Mason is a professor in the Department of Animal and Poultry Science.

The award recognized her exceptional achievements and contributions to the advancement of animal welfare.

Professor Mason was honoured for her groundbreaking research across a range of species.

Her early work focuses on mink motivation and she continues to work with mink farmers on improving animal welfare.

She is considered a world authority on stereotypic behaviour and was the first to use a multi-species, comparative approach to addressing animal welfare questions.
