Project To Improve Export Competitiveness Of Canadian French Fries

Potatoes New Brunswick wants to help improve potato yields and the export competitiveness of Canadian French fries.

The organisation is getting up to 1 point 4 million dollars from the federal government to lead a national research effort to do that.

That will include on-farm experiments to help overcome current yield limitations and to recommend new tools and technologies for potato farmers across Canada.

Potatoes represent over 30 per cent of all Canadian vegetables produced.

The French fry sector buys almost half of that production.

That sector also generates over 700 million dollars in export sales and employs 4 thousand Canadians.
