Beekeepers First Additions To Production Insurance?

The provincial government wants beekeepers to have access to Production Insurance.

The Ontario Crop Insurance Act was recently amended to allow the government to offer Production Insurance plans for products beyond the current list of crops and perennial plants.

Production Insurance covers farmers' production losses and yield reductions caused by insured perils such as weather, disease and pests.

It's an insurance plan with premiums cost-shared by producers and the federal and provincial governments.

A posting on the provincial registry website lists bees as the first of the products not previously eligible for insurance to be designated for coverage.

That designation is open for comments through the on-line listing until August 16th.
