The USDA says the American winter wheat crop is 40 per cent good to excellent - down a point on the week, but 9 points better than last year.

The spring wheat crop is 70 per cent good to excellent - down 2 on the week but the same as it was a year ago.

The department's latest crop progress report says the U-S winter wheat harvest is 55 per cent completed, 4 points behind the 5 year average.
