U-S, Canada Hog Slaughter Up From 2014

Canadian hog slaughter is up 2 point 2 per cent from a year ago.

The increase not so big in Ontario, where Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reports a 0 point 8 per cent increase to the end of May.

Federal figures show exports of Canadian pork products to the end of April are down 4 point 4 per cent by volume from 2014.

Canada's live hog exports to the U-S up to May 23rd this year are up almost 14 per cent from last year.

U-S hog slaughter last week was up over 14 per cent from the week before and up almost 6 per cent from a year ago.

The University of Missouri's Ron Plain says last Thursday's negotiated carcass price for plant delivered hogs averaged $78.60 per hundredweight.

That's down 94 cents on the week .

Plain reports U-S domestic pork demand was up 2 per cent in April - the 28th consecutive month with domestic demand higher than a year earlier.

U-S pork export demand, however, was 10 per cent lower in April.
