Senate Argues Lots Of Work To Be Done On Bee Health

A Canadian Senate committee has made 9 recommendations it believes are necessary to improve bee health.

The recommendations are part of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry's report entitled The Importance of Bee Health to Sustainable Food Production in Canada.

The recommendations include the implementation of a bee health surveillance project to monitor bee health status across the country on a continuous basis, rather than a four-year-period.

The Committee wants to ensure the Pest Management Regulatory Agency is working on enhancing it's pesticide registration process.

It's also calling for an increase in the amount and duration of research funding targeting pollinator health.

The report wraps up a study the committee started in November of 2013.

During that time the Senate committee heard from 85 witnesses - including government, industry and academic representatives.
