Ontario Poultry Industry Recovery Begins

Ontario's poultry sector is gradually returning to standard operations after three confirmed Avian Influenza incidents.

The Feather Board Command Centre says the careful and gradual return to standard operations began this week.

Field staff from the three boards and commission are returning to work outside the two control zones in Southwestern Ontario.

They're limiting their on-farm visits to one farm per day.

The prohibition on visits to board offices and local farmer meetings has been lifted, but the centre is recommending broader industry meetings beyond the local level be postponed until mid-June.

The two control zones will remain in place until released by the CFIA.

The Feather Board Command Centre says rigorous cleaning and disinfecting protocols have to be followed and testing and waiting periods need to be observed before that happens.

Barring any new cases, the Centre says those zones could be lifted by the end of June.
