Concerns About Planting Soybeans Into Dry Soil Conditions

OMAFRA's Brian Hall says if we get a hard frost over the next few nights, we could see some above ground corn and soybean plant kill.

However, he says both those crops are still early enough in their growth they'll be able to recover.

Corn planting is mostly complete in this part of the province with soybeans about 75 per cent planted.

Hall does have some concerns about planting into dry soil conditions.

He's encouraging growers who still have soybeans to plant to make sure they're getting into moisture.

The OMAFRA specialist says seeds should be 1/2 inch into moisture, at least 1 and a half inches deep into the ground.
