Health Benefits Of Soybeans Confirmed

It's an announcement that opens up tremendous opportunity for growth in the Canadian soybean and soy food industries.

That's according to Jeff Schmalz of Soy 20/20.

He's talking about Health Canada's approval of the health claim linking the consumption of soy food to lowering cholesterol levels.

Schmalz says the announcement means that claim can now be included on packaging to help consumers make healthy food choices.

Statistics Canada says 39 per cent of Canadians aged six to 79 have unhealthy levels of total cholesterol.

Schmalz's organisation, Soy 20/20, brings together government, academic and industry partners to stimulate and seize new global bioscience opportunities for Canadian soybeans.

It's supported by Growing Forward 2 and by Grain Farmers of Ontario.
