Awards Wrap Up Water, Nutrient Efficiency Program

A provincial program to fund water and nutrient use efficiency projects has wrapped up with the handing out of six awards.

The Water Adaptation Management and Quality Initiative put 1 point 26 million dollars into 28 projects over the last year.

The awards were handed out in three categories.

Hajnal Kovacs of the Grand River Conservation Authority and Julie Sylvestre of Algonquin College were recognised for community efforts in support of water stewardship.

Commodity support for water and nutrient use improvement awards went to Doctor Ann Huber of the Soil Resource Group and Doctor Jeanine West of Phytoserv.

The final two awards were handed out in the technologies supporting efficient water and nutrient use efficiency category.

They went to Ian Nichols of Win Weather Innovations and Doctor Laura Van Eerd of the University of Guelph.

Farm and Food Care's Bruce Kelly says those six were chosen for their extra commitments to the program.

There's more information on the program and details on the projects on the Farm and Food Care Ontario website - www.farmfoodcare.org.
