The USDA says there were 66 point 1 million head of hogs and pigs on U-S farms on December 1st.
That's up 2 per cent from a year ago.
Breeding inventory was up 4 per cent.
The market hog inventory was up 2 per cent.
The department says the September through November U-S pig crop was up 4 per cent from a year ago.
The average number of pigs saved per litter in the last quarter was 10 point 23 - a record for the September to November period.
Looking ahead - U-S hog producers plan to have 4 per cent more sows farrowing in the December through February quarter than they had in the same quarter last year.
Intended U-S farrowings for the March through May quarter are up 3 per cent.
