Maple Leaf Foods now says the Schneider's plant in Kitchener is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2015.
It's other so-called legacy facility in Toronto is expected to close about the same time.
The closures have been in the works for some time now as part of what the company calls it's 'network transition'.
President and CEO Michael McCain says Maple Leaf has dramatically increased scale and technology, consolidation production into fewer highly efficient plants and streamlined it's product mix with that transition.
Over the past four years the company has closed five plants, expanded three others, consolidated 17 distribution centres into two and built a 400 thousand foot state-of-the-art processing facility in Hamilton.
Maple Leaf has about 12 thousand employees in operations across Canada and exports to more than 20 global markets.
