Ontario Pork is distributing a reminder to it's members which would be of interest to all farmers in the province.
The government is making changes to it's farm licence plate requirements.
Effective January 1st, if you want to buy or attach farm plates to a new commercial vehicle over 3 thousand kilograms you will need to provide documentation to demonstrate you have a farm business.
The new rules will apparently not affect any current farm plate owners who are renewing their plates.
The changes are the result of concerns raised by Ontario's Auditor General over the increasing number of vehicles with farm plates in the province.
The A-G was concerned that no verification was required to get those plates.
Documentation that would qualify as proof of a farm business include a farm organization membership card, a Gross Farm Income Exemption Certificate or a letter from Agricorp with your Farm Business Registration number on it.
