Ministers Lament U-S Challenge Of COOL Ruling

The U-S has decided to appeal the WTO ruling against Country Of Origin Labelling.

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and International Trade Minister Ed Fast say they're disappointed with that decision.

In a joint statement, the two ministers say the U-S is yet again preventing both of our countries from enjoying the benefits of freer and more open trade.

They argue the decision to appeal hurts farmers, ranchers and workers in the U-S and Canada.

Both Ritz and Fast say they're confident the WTO Appellate Body will uphold the principal finding of the compliance panel that the amended COOL measure discriminates against Canadian livestock.
