Careless smoking blamed for apartment fire in Windsor

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services said their quick response to a fire on a balcony of an apartment on Wyandotte Street East likely kept damage to a minimum.

Firefighters were called to the apartment building on Wyandotte near George Avenue early Sunday morning after fire erupted on a third floor balcony.

Smoke was billowing from the third floor balcony when they arrived.

Paramedics treated three people on the scene for minor injuries.

Investigators believe the fire started when smoking materials weren't properly put out.

Damage is pegged at $5,000.
