Police nab suspect wanted for stealing tools
A 43-year-old man is facing charges after he was arrested in connection with a pair of break-ins in the Ridgetown area.
Chatham-Kent police said their investigation started last week Thursday when they were called to investigate a pair of break-ins at a garage where some tools were reported stolen.
Police said they were able to identify a suspect in the case and police caught up with him Sunday afternoon.
The 43-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with two counts of break and enter and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
Wallaceburg man dinged for drunk driving
A 52-year-old man is facing a drunk driving charge after he was involved in a two-vehicle crash just north of Wallaceburg Sunday evening.
Police said they were called to the scene on Buckingham Road near Whitebread Line in St. Clair Township shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, adding that officers reportedly suspected the man driving one of the vehicles was under the influence of alcohol.
He then allegedly failed a roadside breath test, so he was taken back to police headquarters for further testing.
A 52-year-old Wallaceburg man was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was released with a future court date.
Minor injuries were reported and the total damage was estimated at $7,000.
Suspect dressed in black takes off after smash and grab
Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is appealing to the public for tips after a break-in at a business on Queen Street in Chatham.
Police said sometime shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, someone smashed the front window of a business there and took off with about $500 in cash from the register.
The damage caused by the break-in was estimated at around $1,000.
Police said the suspect was a male who was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black mechanic gloves, and a black mask.
Anyone with information should call 1-800-222-8477 and could earn a cash reward.
Suspicious person call leads police to wanted man
A tip about a suspicious person led to a wanted man's arrest in the Dresden area.
Police said they got the call at around 9 p.m. Sunday and that the man was reportedly seen near a greenhouse.
Officers said man (of no fixed address) was wanted for assault with a weapon causing bodily harm and uttering threats.
He was arrested and later released pending a future court date.
Man arrested for carrying BB gun in his car
A 32-year-old man is facing a weapons charge after police allegedly found a BB gun in his car in a parking lot in Chatham.
Police said they found the man -- and the BB gun -- while they were following up on a tip about a man in the area of St. Clair Street who may have been in possession of a firearm.
Officers said they flooded the area at around 10 p.m. Sunday and found the man in a parking lot sitting in his car.
The 32-year-old Chatham man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and he was later released from custody pending a future court date.
Police looking to return found urn to the family
If you know someone who lost an urn recently, Chatham-Kent police would like to hear from you.
Police said officers found an urn in the tree line near Grand Avenue East just before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4.
It has a blue ribbon with the name "Tara" inside a heart pendant.
