Woman accused of hitting her mom
A 26-year-old Chatham woman is facing an assault charge after she allegedly went into her mom's bedroom and hit her in the head.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the residence on Regent Street in Blenheim just after 3 a.m. Monday, adding that the woman's mother suffered a "minor physical injury" as a result of the alleged attack.
The 26-year-old Chatham woman was arrested, charged with assault, and taken back to police headquarters before she was later released with conditions and a future court date.
Man arrested after thefts from Chatham businesses
A 44-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged after police were called to investigate some thefts at businesses on Park Avenue West, Grand Avenue West, and Lacroix Street in Chatham.
Police said the incidents took place on March 16, 19, and 25.
Officers were able to identify a suspect in connection with the case and saw him while he was walking on Park Street in Chatham at around 2 a.m. Monday.
The man allegedly tried to run once police tried to stop him, but he was eventually taken into custody.
The accused was charged with two counts each of theft and possession of stolen property and he was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
Drinking and driving down by the dock
A 63-year-old man from Tilbury East Township is facing a pair of impaired driving charges after he was allegedly caught drinking and driving by the Government dock in Jeanette's Creek.
Chatham-Kent police said they showed up there just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday after they were advised that there was a man who was "physically ill and believed to be intoxicated."
When officers arrived, they found the man inside his vehicle and when police checked on the man, they believed he was under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested and taken back to police headquarters, but reportedly failed to provide a breath sample.
As a result of the investigation, the man was charged with refusing to comply with a breath demand and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
