Kent Bridge's Luke Van Rycheghem is hoping to represent Canada on the baseball diamond again, this time in Japan.
But first, the 17-year-old catcher is taking part in Baseball Canada's U-18 World Cup selection camp in Australia.
"It's exciting, I've never been to Australia," says Van Rycheghem, who's hoping his versatility will land him a spot, even if it's not behind the plate. "If I don't do well defensively, I can always do well offensively to get a designated hitter spot, or maybe even play in the infield."
The camp officially started on Sunday and wraps up on Aug. 24.
Players who make the cut in Australia will represent Canada in Japan for the U-18 World Cup, which runs from Aug. 28 - Sept. 6.
