A couple from Owen Sound has claimed their half of a record setting lottery jackpot.
Bryan and Stephanie Cantwell recently travelled to the headquarters of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation to claim their half of the $80-million jackpot from the September 17 Lotto Max draw.
The Cantwells had one of two winning tickets in the draw, so their share of the jackpot was $40-million.
Their ticket was purchased in Owen Sound, while the other winning ticket was sold in Quebec.
Their win was discovered when Bryan was using the OLG app to check a series of tickets he had. After getting disappointed when his ticket to a previous draw for $70-million was not a winner, his disappointment quickly turned to glee when he checked the ticket for the September 17 draw and found that he and Stephanie had become multi-millionaires.
“I was still in shock, so I checked some other tickets to ensure the app was working properly,” Bryan recounted. “I went back to the winning ticket and scanned it again and again. I think I checked it seven or eight times. The message remained the same - ‘Big Winner’ and ‘$40 million!’”
“We have always been generous people and we dream of helping all the people we love,” said Stephanie. “But I am the budget queen, and we need to be careful to ensure we can make the most impact with this money for family, friends, and the community.”
