Charity Hockey Game In Stratford Supporting First Responders

Stratford native Larry Baker is hosting a charity hockey game in his hometown to support first responders dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The former fire chief is dealing with PTSD and has been using hockey as a way to clear his head and get back to enjoying life. He says playing and coaching hockey has been some of the best therapy he can get.

"Just that comradery and being around the guys or working with the kids, it occupies the mind." He said.

From being more involved in his favourite sport Baker has been hearing stories of others who are, or know someone dealing with PTSD. Like being at the rink, he hopes the charity game can keep the conversation going.

"That's what it is all about." He said. "I have heard so many stories of people going through this and it can be hard to deal with."

The game itself will be headlined by Former and current NHL'ers such as Tim Taylor and Joey Hishon on "Team Tema", the organization that helps first responders with PTSD has given their full endorsement for the game. Baker will be in goal as Team Tema takes on the Stratford Firefighters.

The game is taking place this Sunday at the Rotary Complex at 1:30. Admission is $5 a person or $10 for a family.
