Driver charged with impaired, drug offences after crashing into pole

A 54-year-old woman is facing charges and had her licence suspended after a vehicle crashed into a telephone pole east of Owen Sound.

A concerned citizen called Grey Bruce OPP to notify them about a vehicle that had allegedly been swerving erratically before it collided with the pole on Highway 26 near the 6th Concession in the Municipality of Meaford just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was not hurt.

Police determined the driver was impaired and made an arrest.

A South Bruce Peninsula woman is charged with one count each of driving while impaired by drugs and possession of a controlled substance. Her driver's licence has also been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a week.

The woman is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound court in relation to the charges on November 13, police said.
