Update: Hwy 6 reopens as OPP take barricaded person into custody

Wellington County OPP have reopened Hwy 6 north of Arthur after responding to a barricaded person Saturday morning.

OPP were called to a residential property in the area between Sideroad 10 and Wells Street shortly before midnight on Friday.

The West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine, Crisis Negotiators and Paramedic Services were also on scene.

Around 7 a.m., police reported the individual was taken into police custody without issue. No charges have been laid, and the individual was brought to local hospital for assessment.

Earlier Saturday morning, a shelter-in-place was ordered for the Township of Wellington North, as officers said the situation involved a potentially armed individual. However, that order was lifted, after it was clear the incident was contained to one residence.

Police say there is no threat to public safety and this was an isolated incident.
