Brockton to appoint replacement for outgoing councillor

Council for the Municipality of Brockton has already determined that it will appoint the replacement for outgoing member Councillor Carl Kunhke.

Kunhke handed in his letter of resignation on July 23, saying that he regretfully has to give up his position because his family is moving to the Chatham area.

His final day will be November 30.

Councillor Tim Elphick noted appointment had worked well for filling positions in the past, as just last year, member Steven Trevale was chosen to join council. In early August, council directed staff to bring a report back on how to proceed with the appointment process.

Last week, council approved Kuhnke's resignation. His seat will be declared vacant at the December 9 council meeting.

A Special Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to appoint the new member of council. Details on how to apply for the vacancy will be shared once the seat is declared vacant.
