A Chatham restaurant owner is putting his name forward for Chatham-Kent's (CK) upcoming election.
Brian F. Machado is hoping to be one of two Ward 6 councillors, representing the northwest part of the city.
He told CK News Today he decided to run because he loves the community and wants to ensure it only gets better, especially for his kids.
"I want to make sure they stay in Chatham, and I want them to have a healthy Chatham," said Machado.
If elected, Machado's top priority will be ensuring the community's voice is heard and considered.
He also believes there needs to be a greater focus on Chatham-Kent, not just Chatham.
"If we're spending money to make Chatham a vibrant place, we should be focused on all of Chatham-Kent," added Machado.
Just like many of the candidates running in the election, Machado has no political experience. He believes that'll serve him well as he doesn't want to be a career politician who's only in it for themselves.
"I'm an open book. You ask the question, I'll find the answer," explained Machado.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
