AAFC Forecasting Higher Average Corn, Wheat Prices - Lower Soybean Returns

Federal government officials expect total Canadian grains and oilseeds production to increase in the 2015-16 crop year, which begins in August.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's latest Outlook for Principal Field Crops is forecasting higher average producer wheat prices this year than last - and higher prices in 2015-16 than this year.

Lower Canadian supplies and a weaker Canadian dollar are apparently factors in those expected higher prices.

The department is also forecasting higher average producer prices for corn out of Chatham for this crop year and next.

Again, the soft Canadian dollar is a factor there, as well as a projected increase in U-S corn futures.

Federal analysts are expecting corn seeded area to be up 6 per cent in the coming crop year from 2014-15.

And for soybeans - they're expecting lower prices because of pressure from lower U-S and world prices.

However, those losses are forecast to be moderated by the lower Canadian dollar.
