The scene of a fire in west Windsor is going to be ripped apart over the next couple of days, as the Ontario Fire Marshal searches for a cause.
Lee Tome with Windsor fire says heavy machinery is being brought onto the Sandwich St. site to dig through rubble so that crews can access remaining hot spots, and check areas of interest to the OFM. "The roof has burned off the structure, the steel beams are there but they're warped, and the exterior walls have bowed out. So what we have to do is remove that stuff from the area, to allow us to get in safely to start sifting through the debris," explains Tome.
Despite $1-million in damage, Tome says a large part of the building was saved, which means production at Mayson Machining might be able to continue in some capacity for the time being.
It's not known how long the Ontario Fire Marshal's investigation might take.
