One person hurt in St. Thomas trailer fire

Damage is pegged at $50,000 after a camper trailer parked in the driveway of a southwest St. Thomas home went up in flames.

Multiple calls about the blaze on East Avenue began coming into 911 shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Firefighters arrived at the home to find the trailer engulfed in flames and large plumes of black smoke billowing into the air. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

A resident who tried to extinguish the blaze before firefighters got to the scene suffered minor burns to his hands.

Fire investigators determined the fire started inside the trailer, although the exact cause was not released.

"The fire is not being deemed suspicious by fire investigators," the St. Thomas Fire Department said.

In addition to the trailer, a detached garage and the exposed siding of a nearby home were damaged in the fire.
